PFA Chief Executive Gordon Taylor OBE was a happy man after yet another successful PFA's Players Player of the Year Awards, held at the Grosvenor Hotel in London on April 26th. The 36th Annual bash went down a storm as Ryan Giggs was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year for the first time in his glittering career, Ashley Young crowned as the PFA Young Player of the Year Award and John McDermott picked up the prestigious Merit Award. It is a sign of the increasing strength of the PFA that the Great Room was once again packed to the rafters, and plans are already underway for next year's showpiece occasion.
Of the Awards' Dinner, Gordon Taylor OBE says, "We had our centenary night in December (2007) which was excellent. We fulfilled our pledge to mark our 100 years with having a dedicated rehabilitation unit for the new children's hospital in Manchester. This is one night of many since 1974, which has come to be regarded as the highest accolade for a player to receive recognition from his peers. That is no disrespect to other awards but it's very special and I'm glad it has become so special."
